“Made-for-Recycling” certification from Interzero for our barrier papers

For our barrier products thinbarrier® 201, thinbarrier® 202, thinbarrier® 203, thinbarrier® 204, and thinbarrier® 303, the renowned and internationally recognized full-service environmental service provider and circular economy solutions provider Interzero has certified their excellent recyclability with the internationally valid “Made for Recycling” certificate. With 18 out of a maximum of 20 possible points, our barrier papers consistently receive a “Good” rating and can therefore be disposed of in most European countries (without restriction in Austria, Germany, Italy, Spain, Denmark, Belgium, the Netherlands, Finland, Sweden, etc.) via the waste paper stream (PPK fraction) for high-quality material recycling.
As an environmental services provider, Interzero supports nearly every stage of the packaging cycle—from licensing (Duales System) and the sorting of paper and lightweight packaging to the processing of plastics. In its evaluation, Interzero refers to the criteria and assessment methodology of bifa Umweltinstitut GmbH, verified by the Fraunhofer Institute for Process Engineering and Packaging (IVV), and assesses material recyclability in accordance with DIN EN 13430 and the ZSVR minimum standard.
The “Made for Recycling” certificate uses the CEPI recycling test method v2 as the basis for its recyclability assessment; this method is also used in our internal laboratories and plays a key role in the development of our barrier papers to ensure they are suitable for recycling. In addition, Interzero also tests and evaluates real-world post-consumer scenarios for the papers. To meet legally mandated and rising recycling quotas and to process waste into high-quality recyclates, materials must be designed to be recyclable. Recyclable means they must be correctly collected (waste paper, PPK fraction), clearly sortable (minimum size and surface properties), and capable of being processed into recyclate (high fiber yield).
