Barrier papers for sustainable packaging

Paper has been a sought-after packaging material for centuries because it is made from the renewable raw material cellulose and is therefore biodegradable and highly recyclable. Paper is a resource-saving and recyclable material. In packaging applications where high barriers and a long shelf life are required, plastic and composite films have long been used predominantly. The excessive use of this non-recyclable or difficult to recycle packaging has led to a major problem for our environment.
